The Film as Literature Series

The Film as Literature Series publishes critical editions of classic screenplays and teleplays. Each volume is hardbound in matching binding as a collector's set. In the volume You Are There Teleplays: The Critical Edition, ten episodes from the classic television series are presented.  Since this CBS News series was produced as live television, many of the shows have been lost.  Four of the episodes in this volume were found by the editor in the author's personal files, the only copies known to exist.

The series currently features  the works of Abraham Polonsky.  From a historical perspective, the editor and publisher thought it was important  to re-establish published screencredit to this blacklisted author's work.  Mr. Polonsky wrote the screenplay to the film Odds Against Tomorrow using the "front" John O. Killens.  The editor spoke at length with Mr. Polonsky, Robert Wise (the director), Harry Belafonte (the star and producer), and John Williams (the musical composer).  Their insights are included in the critical analysis of the volume Odds Against Tomorrow: The Critical Edition.

The Film as Literature Series is edited by Dr. John Schultheiss, professor of film criticism and film history at California State University, Northridge.  The series is published by The Department of Cinema and Television Arts at California State University, Northridge in association with Sadanlaur Publications.
